Description
A sparkly specimen of light-purplish amethyst quartz crystals formed as a second-generation drusy overgrowth on an earlier generation of quartz. Specimens from this well-known South African locality commonly display well-defined pyramidal terminations, while the drusy coating is concentrated mainly on the prism faces—an appearance that has led mineral collectors to aptly name them as “cactus quartz”. In this specimen, the drusy coating definitely prevails, but a single pyramidal termination is also visible!
