Description
A beautiful Carlsbad-twinned sanidine specimen from Greece. The pits visible on the crystal faces result from the flaking of small platy biotite crystals during the natural weathering of the volcanic host rock. A subtle brownish oxide coating helps nicely define the crystallographic contact between the twinned crystals. A specimen for those with a natural inclination toward crystallography, but appealing beyond that as well. Field-collected in June 2018.
