Description
A beautiful smithsonite specimen with a striking ice-blue color and pearly lustre! Beyond its visual appeal, it is also geochemically interesting: the smithsonite forms a crust around white limestone, capturing the moment in time when hydrothermal fluids infiltrated and replaced the carbonate rocks of Lavrio, leading to zinc mineralization. This replacement process is evident in the remnant carbonate matrix, which appears vuggy and porous. A fine specimen with both aesthetic and scientific interest.
