Description

A specimen of pyrite from the Huanzala mine in Peru. This pyrite octahedron exhibits an impressive metallic lustre which beautifully scatters the light in all directions as one holds and twists it around. The attentive collector may also notice minute patches of a white mineral phase attached at the bottom of the specimen. These have been reported by some miners and dealers as crandallite. However, it should be noted that this mineral is possibly not part of the original natural paragenesis (for example, it could have potentially formed if phosphoric acid was used during the cleaning of the specimen). Overall, a fantastic specimen with an impressive form and crystallographic features, immediately captivating one’s attention.
