A specimen of amethyst quartz from Goboboseb, Namibia. This piece features an intricate amethyst crystal cluster in which most of the crystals grow in a consistent direction, while a single crystal has developed almost perpendicular to the dominant growth direction, appearing to interrupt the otherwise orderly arrangement. One can only speculate how this could have formed—maybe the crystal naturally broke inside the crystal pocket, got caught and became lodged among the growing crystals below? Whatever the exact process, this intriguing feature offers a fascinating glimpse into the dynamic conditions under which the crystals formed. Adding to the specimen’s aesthetic appeal is its beautiful, saturated and vibrant purple color.
