Description
A specimen of amethyst quartz from Dasoto, Kato Nevrokopi, Greece. This piece features an amethyst cap that has developed over a slightly smoky quartz base. The purple coloration of the amethyst is not uniformly distributed, but instead varies throughout the crystal, with some areas displaying noticeably deeper coloration than others. Notice also the interesting growth patterns, where in some spots they resemble almost perfect topographical contour lines! This is an excellent example from Dasoto, a locality well known among mineral collectors for producing some of the finest amethyst specimens in Greece.
