Description
A robust pyrite pyramid from the world famous Huanzala mine in Peru! Attached to the specimen, one may discern an accessory unidentified white clayey mineral that exhibits no reactivity to hydrochloric acid, thereby excluding calcite as a plausible identification. The miner of the specimen has posited it as crandallite although this assertion must be treated with care as no definite analysis has been undertaken to the extent of our knowledge.
Post-sale update (24 Dec 2025): Note that regarding the reported presence of crandallite on mineral specimens from the Huanzala mine, a Jul 2022 analysis suggested that this mineral may have formed during specimen cleaning (for example, through treatment with phosphoric acid) rather than being part of the original, naturally occurring paragenesis.
