Description
A specimen of calcite, fluorite and dolomite from the Moscona mine in Asturias, Spain. This piece is an excellent representation of the locality, bringing together three of the principal mineral species for which the mine is celebrated among collectors. Under magnification, tiny specks of pyrite can also be observed, adding a fourth mineral species to the paragenesis. One of the most intriguing features of this specimen is the way the rhombohedral calcite crystal has naturally acted as a cementing agent, binding together two separate plates of vivid yellow fluorite. The result is a striking and unusual combination specimen that beautifully illustrates the complex mineralizing processes that once took place in this Asturian deposit.
