Description
The Jeffrey Mine, located near the town formerly known as Asbestos (renamed Val-des-Sources in October 2020), is one of the world’s premier localities for grossular garnet crystals. Their remarkable gemminess and deep, vivid orange color set them apart, making them highly sought-after by collectors. This specimen is a fine example, featuring a dominant grossular (var. hessonite) crystal measuring 1.8 cm across, displaying those classic vibrant orange tones. Surrounding the main crystal are several smaller garnets showing a delightful range of hues—from pale orange to nearly colorless. All of the garnets rest atop a “carpet” of delicate, pale mint-green diopside crystals. Overall, a captivating and beautifully balanced specimen from this legendary, now-closed locality—a true classic. The piece comes with older collection labels.
