Description

A specimen of schorl, fluorite and muscovite from the Erongo mountains in Namibia. This is an excellent combination piece with a wealth of interesting features. The main schorl crystal shows a robust, blocky habit which at the top changes into a “forest” of fine, needle-like crystals. Some of these needles display a subtle bluish hue, suggesting they may belong to another member of the tourmaline group (foitite?), although this could only be confirmed through analytical testing. Several small, modified cubic fluorite crystals are attached both along the sides of the schorl and at the top among the delicate needle terminations. Their colors range from brownish-green to green, with a few displaying attractive purple tones. Completing the association are tufts of white muscovite which provide a pleasing visual contrast. A fascinating specimen that would definitely keep the collector busy examining all the fine details.
