Description
Galena is mined around the Bulgarian town of Madan for lead production. Although the vast majority of the ore ultimately ends up in the crusher, some specimens are occasionally spared—when even the miners acknowledge that certain objects are simply too beautiful not to be preserved and admired. This is one such example: a remarkable galena specimen displaying highly structural, locally hopper-like crystal growth. Intriguing surface patterns are visible throughout, while the overall aesthetic is further enhanced by the specimen being elegantly perched on a matrix of small, transparent, prismatic quartz crystals. A fantastic piece that survived the mill and now brings joy as part of a mineral collection.
