Description
A specimen of galena from the Septemvri mine in the Madan mining district of Bulgaria. This piece features several cubic, lead-gray galena crystals. Particularly notable is the unusual, almost melted-like appearance of the galena crystals, a distinctive texture produced by later-stage dissolution following their initial crystallization. This secondary dissolution has subtly modified the original cubic forms, giving the crystals their unique and highly aesthetic appearance. Sphalerite, quartz, and minor chalcopyrite accompany the galena and complete the paragenesis. Overall, this is an impressive and hefty specimen from one of Bulgaria’s most prolific and well-known mining districts, combining excellent galena crystallization with beautiful dissolution textures.
