A specimen of hematite from Dasoto, Kato Nevrokopi, Greece. This piece features dark, metallic-grey, bladed hematite crystals forming an attractive tabular aggregate. Although the area surrounding the village of Dasoto is best known for its spectacular amethyst specimens, hematite iron roses can also be found within the host gneiss. Such specimens are considerably less common on the mineral market than the amethysts, making this piece a noteworthy example of the locality and an interesting representation of its less well-known hematite mineralization.
