Description
Here’s a specimen with an unusual habit from the Lavrio mining district in Greece. The smithsonite forms elongated, rod-like, doubly terminated crystals of a light yellow color. The crystal tips are translucent, whereas the main body of each crystal is opaque. These minute smithsonite rods are delicately sprinkled across a piece of brownish limonitic matrix, creating a pleasing contrast.
