A turquoise specimen from the village of Vathi in northern Greece. This hydrous copper phosphate mineral has been prized as a gemstone for millennia by many of the great cultures of antiquity. In Greece, turquoise has been discovered in only one locality—the pluton of Vathi—making it an exceptional rarity.
